There is a reason those #oddlysatifying and #speedrecipe videos are so popular in your social media feeds. There is a reason Bob Ross episodes are making a come-back. They elicit your Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, also known as ASMR. It is a soothing sensation (tingles, relaxation, calmness, sleepiness) that happens in resonse to gentle non-threatening stimuli (whispering, soft reading, light touches, personal attention, methodical sounds).
Sensory stories are a kind of story experience that has evolved to allow people with extraordinary sensory processing (autism spectrum, unique sensory processing or integration, etc.) to interpret experiences that can be overwhelming, before they are confronted with them in the world. They are often told in a format that allows the reader to implement soothing or familiar elements as a calming mechanism. Because they tend to soothe, the stories are written to be read repeatedly. Over time, they can give the reader a tool for processing their environment independently and with more self-control.
You will find stories and media experiences on this website for sensory readers. Some are abstracted and isolated for focus. Some are blended and compounded for relaxation. All of them are created for you to develop your own sensory-awareness and discover your unique sensitivities. Use this knowledge to combat stress and grow your creative power.
WCK writes for three main audiences:
- SENSORY READERS – Sensory Learners, Blended Learning Style Learners, Synesthetic Musicians, Music Students
- THEIR PROFESSIONAL CAREGIVERS – Special Education Teachers, Para-Pros, Sensory Therapists, Applied/Autism Behavioral Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Children’s Music Teachers
- THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS – Families of Children with Extraordinary Sensory Processing
