The Road to Charleston: Summer’s Embrace of ’92

In ’92’s summer heat, we embarked on a quest,
From Mare Island’s shore, on a van’s cozy nest.
Our family’s voyage, from West to East we roamed,
Through the heart of America, in search of a new home.

As we waved goodbye, tears shimmered in our eyes,
Hopeful glances shared, as we bid our last goodbyes.
The road stretched before us, its mysteries untold,
A melancholic start, as mysteries of the states unfold.

Through sun-drenched days, the Vegas strip in haste,
Neon lights dancing, as memories interlaced.
Yellowstone’s majesty, nature’s vibrant stage,
Old Faithful’s eruption, a spectacle to engage.

The Dakotas whispered secrets, in a hole-in-the-wall diner,
Largest pancakes devoured; flavors lingered finer.
Saint Louis Arch, a gateway to history’s tale,
A monument of grandeur, where legends prevail.

Southern drawls crept back, their accent so sweet,
As we journeyed further, the locals’ welcome complete.
We gazed upon America’s plains, wide and grand,
Books and Gameboy in hand, adventure close at hand.

Through open plains, our eyes gazed afar,
Reading Archie, I spied something greyed, a treasured memoir.
Metroid’s adventures, our virtual escape,
As landscapes unfolded, a sensory landscape.

In the bucket chairs bouncing, my two brothers and me,
Bound by blood and love, a trio wild and free.
As I entered my teenage years, a world of change,
With dreams and uncertainties, my heart arranged.

Amidst the shifting landscapes, we faced the unknown,
Their laughter and innocence, a light brightly shown.
Bickering and bonding, a sibling dance so true,
Together we journeyed, hearts connected in a crew.

New schools awaited, Charleston’s naval domain,
Nervous, yet excited, our hearts could not contain.
A summer’s odyssey, a tale to be retold,
In memories treasured, whispers of new delights unfold.

With every mile, anticipation did thrive,
A new military station, where our dreams would launch.
Nervous, yet emboldened, we faced the unknown,
To Charleston’s embrace, we finally had grown.

As the road still unfolds before us, and time carries on,
Through teenage years and beyond, our bond encroached upon,
On the road to Charleston, we find solace and glee,
A shared adventure, a forever kind of memory.
