Making Madness: My Sensory Journal & Guided Seasonal Planner

The inspiration

We create journals to plan and chronicle our summer adventures just about every year. They have become a little more evolved with each iteration to hold more and more of our creative this’s and that’s. Keeping a planner has become vital for managing the stress and anxiety that comes from normal, everyday, life in our house. Keeping a journal, however, takes some effort for us. The benefits are clear when we do: memories are strengthened and recorded, events are processed emotionally, goals are thought through and more likely to be reached, latent thoughts are tended to, and the practice of writing creatively and expressing ourselves improves naturally.

The emphasis of our books and stories is on becoming more aware of our senses and, of course, using them. This is the sensory art of making madness, which is this journal’s namesake. It is a tool for inspiring and documenting a one-year journey through daily life in a creative and discerning way.

“To drive oneself mad is an art form very few truly understand.”

Johnny Daggers

This year, we have a journal that’s designed to make all of that madness conveniently. It’s small enough to carry along with us, but mighty enough to haul the quick thoughts and wispy dreams that come along with the freshness of springtime and boldness of summertime. You will find it has calendars and trackers to plan your time and events, but it transforms the planner into a keepsake that captures your year in depth with sketches, story-like passages of your seasonal experiences, and a format that can be completed out-of-order for us non-linear thinkers. It has an old-world vibe and is sprinkled with relaxing floral coloring options and sensory-driven quotes along the way. Prompts for mindful observation and regular journaling are included. The book has a little bit of everything to keep the process of planning and logging a fun one. We hope this old-fashioned device helps you find some clever madness over the course of the coming year.

A look inside the book

The carryall planner for creators!

The Making Madness: My Sensory Journal & Guided Seasonal Planner will prompt and inspire you to:

  • Create a treasured chronicle of your creative year
  • Document your world through the lens of sensory exploration and integration
  • Draft seasonal assessments and goals at regular, but not overwhelming, intervals

You’re sitting in your car in line for your 3PM latte, the longest line of the day, and inspiration strikes! It’s one of those creative and complicated ideas that you know will get clouded in the time it takes to return to your studio, find the right notebook that you placed in a clever spot, but likely take you twenty minutes to recall said spot, and commence with the recording of this obvious stroke of genius. You need to illustrate this thought by hand. It’s the only way to capture it before it floats off into the other realms of your imagination. It’s pure, absolute, and divine MADNESS!

SO many of these strokes have been lost to time, but this journal and planner combination book has been carefully designed to be in the right place at the right time to chronicle your musing for an entire year. Your story begins in the springtime, when all good things end their hibernation and begin to take their shape again.

This book is small enough to bring along with you in your everyday commutes and in your epic travels. It was built to craft your year of sensory observation and inspiration in a single place. It is the jumping off place for your new ideas and goals that you will use to carry into your larger work space.

But BUYER BEWARE, you may become emotionally attached to this carryall of your ideas as it becomes filled with your seasonal life stories, sensory observations, project plans, still-life captures of your everyday things, hand-drawn sketches, soothing coloring episodes, and personalized collages. It is strongly recommended that you include your name and contact info in the front pages so it can be returned when misplaced, if that should ever happen to you.

Record your creativity live, as it happens, with this guided travel journal and keepsake planner to watch your ALL of your madness manifest this year.
