Plans are all about control. The plan for composition III of Flos Ferox Porta (Wild Flower Portal) is to match the lines of the ones that came before it, but to simplify the color scheme.
The ultramarine blue steps aside. Slightly heavier blends of the shimmering gold, rouge, fluorescent pink, and turquoise are left to their own devices in this strainer acrylic pour painting.
1.0 part acrylic paint : 1.5 parts pouring medium : 0.3 part water
In this testament to control, the order of the colors pouring into the strainer are in precisely the same order, starting with pink for the edges and ending with gold for the centerpiece. The strainer is lifted away and the portal lines are spaced evenly until the spreading starts. The centers mix more than the other parts of the painting because the paint slips through the mesh at the end of the pour blends more than the first layers do.
This needs to be fixed. Two canvases later, the centers hold the lines after spreading because the colors pour from the center outward instead of around the center. Blending is minimized and the inside holds much better.
The wild flowers are having a field day and took over this sensory art studio session.
Check back soon! Updates will be added to this gallery as the paintings are processed, dried, cleaned, and varnished.
